To whom it may concern: Hello, my name is Hyelim Jodie Park, student number 0029184. I have been attending Emily Carr University of Arts and Design since 2006. When I finished foundations I applied for the Faculty of Design but I did not get accepted; General Fine Arts became my major because of it. This semester when I was to enroll for courses I could not enroll in the ones I had wanted because of my major; the only courses left were the ones I was not really in but was just bare minimum of requirements. After the first day of the classes I found out that I've been automatically dropped out of Painting 300, which I had attended the first class of. By this time I was feeling very insecure about my English skills and have been wanting to go to a language school. After the first class I felt even more so because of the level of communication, whi ch went throughout the class among the instructor and students. When I found out that I had been dropped out automatically I decided that I wanted to attend a language school for this semester. I knew that if I did not attend the first day of the classes that IĠd be dropped automatically, I did not attend the rest of my classes. Since I am an international student, I was worried that I might have some complications regarding my student visa. The day after I decided to drop all my courses (Friday, the second day of classes), I went to see the international student advisor. However he had a meeting planned that day so I had to comeback the next Monday. After I talked to him on Monday, I went to see my academic advisor, Lawrence, about any complications from taking the semester off. From what I've heard and understood from him, there were penalties only for the people who have already paid for and registered fully in classes, which was not my case. So I had thought that I would not have any penalties. However when I checked online yesterday I found fees on my account summary online. Being an international student makes my tuition fees very high at schools. My tuition and rent are sent from my parents as most international students do. However, my bank account has been compromised last week and all the money sent from my parents was stolen from it including rent. The bank is looking into this situation but my account has been locked with $40 left in it and this is the worst of my current situation. Currently I believe that my level of English is not very strong. I may have misunderstood what Lawrence was talking about the other day but I believe the penalties have been a little harsh given my situation. I would be very grateful if you would kindly look at my situation and decide to waive my penalties in favor. Thank you for your time. September 15th, 2009 Hyelim Jodie Park 0029184
